Istanbul - Day 4

The day started off so well. We got up, had breakfast. I had the usual (but unusual for the UK) lentil soup and a coffee. I don't know why it's a thing in Turkey but lentil soup seems to be on every menu for every meal of the day lol.

Kirsty was looking forward to finally getting her new smile. This being the 2nd false start she has had I think it is making her even more anxious each time she comes back. We got to the clinic after breakfast and the sun was out albeit still quite chilly on the outside balcony area.

Kirsty went in first but then shortly after she'd had her injections she came back out. The was experiencing a similar problem to last time when she could not breathe properly once they had numbed her up. This happened the last time and I think partly the anxiety or it all and also that she feels she can't breathe through one side of her nose made her had a panic attack. It was horrible seeing her shaking uncontrollably and not being able to do anything to help. It doesn't matter how many people try to tell you to relax once your body takes over you can't do anything about it. After a bit of time to get used to it she felt a bit more relaxed but the dentist was worried it might happen again once they started. They really didn't want to start filing her teeth down only for her to panic again and not be able to finish what they had started.

After reviewing her existing teeth he said he really didn't think she actually needed to have them filed down. She just needed her implants put in so that would stop her bottom teeth moving as she wouldn't be chewing and grinding on her front teeth. I felt absolutely gutted for her as it has already been such a long road for her filled with disappointment. Rather than dwell on it though I suggested that maybe she gets her teeth whitened tomorrow and then they can match the implants to her new teeth colour. At least she will have nice white teeth to go home with plus implants.

So Kirsty could relax now for today. Laylay and Kirsty went back to the hotel as it was pointless for them waiting at the dentist with me. I had my temporary teeth at the back removed which was really quick just pretty much pulled them with pincers. Then had about 6 injections and then my permanent crowns were cemented in. The injections aren't the nicest of things but I am a bit used to them now, even when they do them on the roof of your mouth part it's only the initial injection going in you feel for a minute but then it's bearable.

Once my teeth were all done I headed back to the hotel to meet the girls and then we started looking for a Chinese restaurant nearby. We eventually found one called The Dragon Restaurant inside the Hilton hotel which I knew would be quite pricey but we felt like we had eaten enough kebabs and meat skewers for one trip.

We jumped in a taxi which was 100TL ( about £4) for a 15/20 minute trip, which is a hell of a lot cheaper than a taxi at home.

It was a really nice experience and the food was lovely, even if it was a bit pricey. It's not like we are going to be eating here every day so it was just a nice treat after what has been quite a stressful day.

Soon as we got back to the hotel I finished my book and hit the sack. The Book was absolutely brilliant and I am a bit gutted it's finished. It felt like I had an on-demand movie in my pocket everywhere I went. I am definitely going to check out some of her other books. If you want a real page-turner to get stuck into, check out this BOOK. Thanks Sharon Gardner for the recommendation, absolutely loved it!
